We have two nights to explore the closing of autumn and the emergence of winter. In the winter the landscape is silent and majestic. The moon is nearly full which will give considerable nighttime guidance and nuance. Throughout our hike we will learn and practice Leave No Trace principles.
Saturday, December 19 – Mandatory Meet and Greet
This is the time to meet your Trip Leader and new hiking friends and partners. Your Trip Leader will give an overview of what you can expect during Edge of Winter and together we will talk about and distribute gear. As a group we will portion meals and snacks and then practice packing our backpack. The Meet and Greet is held in the afternoon around 2:00 pm.
Sunday, December 20 – Travel to Trailhead/Hike
After double checking our gear we will load up and travel to our trailhead (final location to be determined based upon weather conditions). Hike will be along gentle terrain. We will learn about “the triangle,” eat a fabulously prepared meal and sleep blissfully in our tents in the out-of-doors.
Monday, December 21 – Almost Full Moon
Today we will continue our foot travel, enjoying the landscapes and seeking just the right place for camp. With views surrounding and nary a sound your senses take over in the quiet. We will continue to practice backpacking “basics” and eat yet another fabulously prepared meal.
Tuesday, December 22 – Hike/Travel to Basecamp
We have an option of a leisurely start to the day before returning to basecamp to unpack and sort gear. Congratulate yourself with your newly learned skills and confidence. Are you ready to go again?
At base we will share lunch during a half hour course evaluation and final thoughts before we separate for the afternoon. We aim to be finished by 1:00 pm.
Reservations are a first request, first reserve. Cancellation policy applies.
