This is your opportunity to step out of your comfort zone to test your map and compass or GPS knowledge. This four hour challenge is designed to build your confidence and skill at finding control points at your own pace and with a route of your own making.
* 7:30 am – Review of setting a bearing will be offered
* 7:45 am – Map and clue sheet distributed
* 8:00 am – Prompt start
This field day is a ROGAINE style challenge.
You will have four hours to find as many control points as possible using your map and compass skills or your GPS skills. You choose how many control points, the course you want to follow while also managing time. You must return to the start/finish line at 12pm/noon. For every minute you are late points are deducted.
What to Bring: a compass, a writing utensil and your day pack with the 10 essentials – there will be no water on the course.
Directions: will be provided to registrants one week prior to the challenge date. Start/finish line is approximately 15-minutes from the Pagosa Springs Visitor Center in the Fawn Gulch area.
Challenge Limit: Limit of 25 individuals – rate includes map and clue sheet; lunch/snacks following the challenge.
