An organization to which we are affiliated asked a question the other day that made me pause for a moment to ponder how to respond. The question was, “What is your top value to success, your staying power?” To be fair, it isn’t that difficult of a question. I mean, it’s a passion … right!!! But how does one articulate “passion,” a noun of emotional affection that is often overused by whole-heartedly invested business like Step Outdoors? Sure, going outside is an occupational perk for us but stepping outside with you – that gets us excited.
So, without a moment’s hesitation (or a good proof-reader to tell me otherwise) this is what I wrote (if I can make an excuse – I was on a deadline):
The top value to success for Step Outdoors is simply to take a step. Go outside and take a step. Today, step to your mailbox. Tomorrow take a few steps further. Momentum is gathered from this ambulatory movement and directly impacts everything thereafter. Simply taking one step and following that by another (regardless if that step is physical, emotional or mental) springs strength, confidence, endurance, pride, accomplishment and a formulation of goals. All success comes from the simple movement of a first step.
Well, if you can wrap your head about that paragraph without shaking your head in utter disbelief then I can forgive myself for not simplifying the message. But then again, you get it … right?
