In 2017 Step Outdoors is offering a monthly PBWA Program. This Pay Back When Able (PBWA) opportunity is a mimic of what Paul Petzoldt offered to interested students of his wilderness program when he opened NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) in the mid-60s. Part of the purpose of the offering was a “we can get stuff done attitude,” Paul Calver, former instructor and marketing director, explained in an interview sharing the history of NOLS. Of course, those were different times but with so much happening with our public lands and so much need for our individual involvement and attention, we believe the premises is the same … we can get stuff done. At Step Outdoors we believe not only can but we will!
Each month in 2017 we will be offering individuals an opportunity to register and participate, without payment, in a chosen outdoor adventure. As we enter our seventh year, it makes sense to pass along valuable useful chances and skills to individuals who want the experience but may not have the finances.
In June, our offer includes a space in our weekend workshop – The Wild Side.
The idea is that participants will be in adequate physical shape, have a good attitude and fully participate, gain knowledge, skills and confidence and will PBWA the $495 registration fee.
To qualify, interested individuals must contact Stacy and register. A willingness to PBWA can be written on any creative, recycled medium of choice (think cereal box, old paper menu, etc.). We will collect these “letters” for our own creative unveiling at the close of 2017.
As our clients can expect, PBWA spaces are limited – first request, first reserve. Each month the offering is different and to be up to date check our newsletter and our Facebook page at the beginning of each month.
At a time when so many are struggling, striving for ways to be involved, unsure of how to follow their dreams and goals, we hope this program will encourage each of them to progress forward. And, we hope it gives you incentive to find a way to pay it forward, in your own way, in 2017.
